The breadth piece focuses on the motivations behind the Manitoba First Nation’s Keewatin Tribal Council’s desire to pursue self-governance to reclaim control over their affairs and ensure the rights and needs of their communities are met. I wrote this 15-page article, “Why do the Manitoba First Nations want to pursue self-governance plans?” for the First Nations Heritage and Laws in Special Topics in Anthropology coursework in the Summer semester of 2024. This coursework has enabled me to connect with the TRU’s Local-to-Global learning outcome by understanding Indigenous laws and intercultural awareness in local legal frameworks and knowledge.
